Meet the C-SPL February 2024 Reader of the Month, Aundrea Kaune!
Aundrea Kaune, the C-SPL February 2024 Reader of the Month

Besides sleeping and eating, reading is my favorite thing to do. All the cheesy, lame quotes and sayings about reading ring true for me. I am lucky that I have always loved reading. I am also lucky that I work as a teacher where I get to read with students every day and a mom that gets to read with my kids every night.

I’ve always preferred fiction over nonfiction, but I read both. I have never gotten into romance or science fiction books and rarely read suspense or thrillers. I like historical fiction and I like books where the narrator is a bit eccentric or a bit delusional. If a book makes me laugh out loud, cry, or see life from a myriad of perspectives, I am a fan.

C-SPL February 2024 Reader of the Month Q & A:

Q. What book(s) are you currently reading?

A.  I am currently reading “The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store” by James McBride and “Eileen” by Ottessa Moshfegh, and I’m into them both.

Q. What is the best book you have read within the last year (or ever)?

A. I really liked “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver. So, so good.

Q. What is your ideal reading environment (location, sound, snacks, etc.)?

A. I read whenever and wherever I can. I love to read outside with a cup of coffee or lying in bed, but I will read anywhere I can, even while walking to and from work.

Q. What book are you most excited about reading next, and what about it is most exciting?

A. “The Whispers” by Ashley Audrain. I loved her book, “The Push.” And even though my mom says all books are good, she said this book is REALLY good.

Q. What format do you prefer and why (physical book, ebook, audiobook)?

A. I only read physical books. I tried reading on my phone, but I just can’t get into it. Maybe someday, but for now, I am holding strong to “real” books.

Q. What is something interesting you learned from a book?

A. Reading makes me remember who I am and when I either love or hate a fictional character, it helps me better understand what I value in others.

Q. When do you decide to stop reading a book? In other words, do you read every book to the last page, or is there a moment when you decide to stop?

A. There are too many good books to read bad ones. I have started and quit many books. I feel like I can usually tell if I’ll like a book after the first few pages.

Q. Do you remember when your love for reading began?

A. I have always loved reading. One of my best childhood memories is reading with my siblings and neighbors under a tree in our front yard.
