Art at Your Library with Gail Chavenelle

Art at Your Library Feb/March 2024

Gail Chavenelle is metal sheet sculptor. She creates three-dimensional images in various sizes that possess an organic quality and movement.

Her latest project, “Black History is America History,” is a series of rough metal designs that have evolved over the past year. This project will display at the library from Feb. 2-March 25. Those who visit the exhibit can vote for their favorite design. Gail will take the design with the most votes and transform it into a finished seven-foot tall public sculpture. This project was funded by the City of Dubuque Creative Empowerment Subgrant.

Please join us for an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Enjoy light refreshments and music by the Northeast Iowa School of Music.

This display is part of Art at Your Library, it is located in the historic second floor rotunda and is open to the public during regular library hours.
