Technology can be a scary thing. If working at the Library has taught me one thing, it’s that technology is the future, and without at least some knowledge, you will be left at the curb. Job hunting is no longer done by filling out paper applications. If you want a job, most businesses require you to fill out on-line applications, along with uploading resumes and cover letters. Filling out W2s, accessing insurance benefits and getting pay stubs is all computerized.
It’s not all about computers though. Those VHS tapes gathering dust in your entertainment center? Another piece of technology that is a thing of the past. I know I’ve recycled about 4 VCRs, only to realize that I can no longer view my wedding or kid’s birthday parties. And what about those slide shows your neighbor made you watch of their vacation to the World’s Largest Ball of Twine? Guess what: all of those memories on film can be digitally converted to stream to the giant TV screen or saved on a DVD.
So if you’ve been out of the computer loop for a while, don’t worry. The Maker Space staff will guide you through the steps to save your memories.
