Meet Josh, our November Reader of the Month! A lifelong book lover and self-described “quiet reader,” Josh has been a stay-at-home dad for the past nine years and recently began working as a substitute associate in elementary schools. Whether he’s diving into an epic fantasy or relaxing with a suspenseful page-turner, Josh always has a story close at hand – usually on his Kindle.

November Reader of the Month Q&A:
Can you tell us about your reading interests in general?
- My reading interests span quite a few genres. I enjoy fantasy, romantasy, horror, science fiction, and suspense. I like reading on my Kindle, physical books if that is the only format, and graphic novels.I have always loved reading. I remember always having a book with me while riding in whatever vehicle I was in. This included the school bus and the family van. I enjoy the movie that I have running in my mind while reading and my movie is usually better than an actual one.
Do you prefer reading physical books, using a Kindle or listening to audiobooks?
- I enjoy reading on my Kindle because I can bring it wherever I want to go and read in any light conditions. I received this as a Christmas gift two years ago and have been using it since. I can’t listen to audiobooks because the narrator doesn’t match up with the voice I have reading in my mind already.
What are you currently reading?
- I am currently reading Quicksilver by Callie Hart and Never Flinch by Stephen King.
What is the best book you’ve read within the last year?
- One of the best books I have recently read would be Red Rising by Pierce Brown. The main character finds himself transformed and then thrust into a game of war.
Can you describe your ideal reading environment?
- My ideal reading environment involves someplace quiet and away from people. I like reading in my rocking chair with the lights out, so I can use my Kindle.
What book are you most excited about reading next, and what about it is most exciting?
- I am most excited about reading Ghostbloods by Brandon Sanderson. I am ready to get back into learning more about this group and how they connect into the Cosmere.
Have you discovered any exciting new authors or genres?
- I have discovered that I enjoy books with a little “spice” and fantasy aspects. The Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton is really good and Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas is great as well.
What other library resources do you enjoy?
- I use Libby all of the time for my Kindle reading and I will check out graphic novels, puzzles, and board games from the library.
