PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
Increase access to materials by maintaining items in correct order on the shelves.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
Two hours per week on a regular basis anytime the library is open.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Select a specific area of the collection and take responsibility for just this area
  • Review items on shelves for order by alphabet or Dewey Decimal
  • Pull grubby looking or damaged items for selector review
  • Maintains DVDs and Blu-ray movies in alphabetical order

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order
  • Physical ability to push, bend, stretch, reach, lift, and read book spines
  • Strong organizational skills – an aptitude for detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and
    procedures
  • Ability to received instruction from library staff and the cooperation to abide by
    library policies and regulations

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
2 to 4 hour shifts weekly as arranged

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
To assist branch or department staff with clerical needs

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Data entry and/or typing
  • Filing
  • Sorting and collating
  • Assist with assorted mailing projects & bulk mailings
  • Working with indices
  • Photocopying
  • Making phone calls


SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies and
    procedures
  • Ability to receive instruction from library staff and the cooperation to abide by
    library policies and regulations
  • Ability to speak and understand English
  • Ability to read and alphabetize

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
2 to 4 hours per week

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
To assist in organization and maintenance of digitizing Library records, files, documents
and photographs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research documents
  • Prepare and index the content to be digitized
  • Scan documents according to preset guidelines
  • Organize the digitized documents.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Interest in preservation of materials and archives
  • High organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret information and translate content to the most
    accessible heading and indexing
  • Proficiency in working with scanners, computers, and digital file storage
  • Ability to speak and understand English
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and
    procedures
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to lift and/or move materials as necessary

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
Assist patrons in their genealogical and local history research.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
Two hours per week on a regular basis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research information for requests that come in online, phone, or mail
  • Respond to questions from patrons on the topic of genealogy
  • Respond to questions from patrons on the topic of local history
  • Assist in the use of online resources that support genealogy and local history

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Expertise in local history
  • Expertise in the subject of genealogy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and
    procedures
  • Ability to received instruction from library staff and the cooperation to abide by
    library policies and regulations

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
2 hours per week; seasonal

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
To assist in keeping the library grounds in top condition and to provide a welcoming
approach to the facility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pull weeds
  • Water plants as required
  • Rake
  • Sweep sidewalks
  • Pick up trash

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to understand English
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and
    procedures
  • Ability to received instruction from library staff and the cooperation to abide by
    library policies and regulations
  • Ability to work on feet for up to four hours
  • Physical ability to perform work described
  • Some knowledge of plants is desirable

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
Flexible and to be determined by the number of homebound patrons signed up to serve

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
Provide library materials to people who are homebound and unable to come into the
library to check out materials.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Select books for patron based on interests
  • Deliver materials
  • When picking up materials and bringing new materials, discuss satisfaction with selected titles that are being returned to assist in future selection


SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to speak and understand English
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to work with empathy with people who are homebound for a variety of
    reasons
  • Ability to provide dependable transportation to deliver materials and maintain
    insurance coverage on vehicle
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and
    procedures
  • Ability to receive instruction from library staff and the cooperation to abide by
    library policies
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with patron information


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to lift and carry tote bags full of books weighing up to 20 lbs.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
Two hour shifts at the Reference Desk

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
Provide one-on-one assistance for patrons who require more time than a Reference
Librarian can give.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist patrons with their technology questions and to use library resources
  • Provide troubleshooting for patrons with their various electronic devices
  • SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a
    positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and
    procedures
  • Ability to received instruction from library staff and the cooperation to abide by
    library policies and regulations
  • Proficiency in the use of and troubleshooting popular electronic equipment such
    as iPads, tablets, Smartphones, a variety of e-Readers, and the Library’s digital
    resources
  • Feel comfortable in searching for answers to questions regarding technology
    when the answer is unknown

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
Minimum of 1 hour per week from home

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
To assist in the proofreading of historical and current newspapers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews digital newspapers on assigned pages
• Identify errors and record on Excel spreadsheet

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures
• Attention to detail
• High organizational skills
• Ability to save and send files through email
• Access to and ability to use Microsoft Office Excel
• Access to a computer with an Internet connection
• 16 years of age or older
• Interest in preservation of antiquities

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
Minimum of 2 hour shifts

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER JOB:
To help children and teens sign-up for summer reading and distribute prizes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Explain summer reading guidelines
  • Thank and encourage kids for reading in the summer
  • Keep accurate track of the number of prizes given out
  • Resupply prize options

SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Interest in and enjoyment of working with children
  • Ability to handle a busy environment with patience and understanding of children’s
    needs
  • Ability to work genially with staff, the public, other volunteers and convey a positive,
    friendly attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies and procedures
  • Ability to speak and understand English
  • Ability to read and alphabetize
  • Excellent fine motor skills and attention to detail
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with patrons’ information

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Able to move around and be steady on feet behind a desk
  • Ability to lift and/or move materials as necessary up to 20 pounds
