TV & Movies

With thousands of Blu-rays and DVDs in our collections, monthly movie nights projected onto the big screen in our 100-seat auditorium, and the best free popcorn in Dubuque (sorry, Theisen’s), we are definitely certified movie nuts at Carnegie-Stout Public Library.

That is exactly why we are so excited about the upcoming Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, otherwise known as JDIFF, which takes place in downtown Dubuque from April 20-24.

Every spring for the past decade, JDIFF has shown dozens of films from across the world to Dubuque moviegoers, and they have hosted scores of filmmaker panels, workshops, parties, and more.

And looking at the JDIFF film guide at, 2022 promises to be one of the best festivals ever.

For example, this year’s JDIFF movies include “Jack,” a crazy, “Superbad”-style comedy; “Remember Me,” a biopic on the life of Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson; and “A Cartoon of a Cat Sleeping,” a seven-minute comedy which unfolds entirely in one shot.

There are so many more films like these, that it will be extremely difficult to choose which ones to see.

The good news is Carnegie-Stout Public Library can help! Just show your library card at the 2nd Floor Reference Desk now through April 24, and we will give you 2 free movie vouchers. Redeem your vouchers at the JDIFF Box Office at Hotel Julien Dubuque for 2 free festival movie tickets!

If you have always wanted to go to the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, here’s your chance to try it for free!

See you at the movies!
